Stovetop “Baked” Apples

One of my best friends came over for dinner the other night and brought a bag of fresh apples with her. She made the most delicious, and seemingly easy, “baked” apples right on my stovetop!

Cinnamon apples cooking in a pot on the stove

Ingredients

  • 3-4 apples (any variety, but I like Fuji and Gala)

  • Cinnamon - I don’t have an exact measurement here, but you’ll use enough to make what’s in the pot a medium to dark brown. If it seems light, add more cinnamon.

  • 1/3 cup water

  • 1/3 - 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • A splash of lemon juice (from the bottle is fine)

Directions

  1. Bring water in a small to medium pot to a boil.

  2. Peel apples and cut into slices or chunks (slices will cook faster). Add to boiling water.

  3. Add cinnamon and brown sugar (start small with both ingredients, add more until the contents of the pot are a medium to dark brown. If it looks too light, add more cinnamon. The image above was too light and my friend instructed me to add significantly more cinnamon).

  4. Add the lemon juice and stir everything together.

  5. Cook until apples are fork tender (you should be able to easily stick a fork into your apples without any force).

  6. Serve warm!
